Several large book publishers, a tiny public library and others are suing Idaho officials over a law that forces libraries to keep some books in an adults-only section if community members believe they are “harmful to minors.

A group of major publishers in the U.S. are suing the state of Idaho for what they call “vague and overbroad” laws banning minors from accessing certain books in libraries and schools deemed sexual. Republican-backed House Bill 710 was enacted in July last year after a years-long campaign by the Idaho legislature to censor material deemed harmful to kids.

Major publishers, including Penguin Random House, Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins, Macmillan Publishers and Simon & Schuster, have filed a joint lawsuit in America challenging “book banning” in public and school libraries.

Several of the world’s largest publishing companies such as Penguin House Publishing, along with the Donnelly Public Library and several authors, are suing Idaho over House Bill 710.

Penguin Random House, alongside Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins Publishers, Macmillan Publishers, Simon & Schuster, and Sourcebooks, has filed a lawsuit challenging the book removal provisions of HB 710,

National book publishers, authors, the Donnelly Public Library, parents and students sued officials to block Idaho's library materials law.
