Former President Jimmy Carter is being honored with the pageantry of a funeral in the nation's capital before a second service in his Georgia hometown.
The pair paid tribute to former President Carter at his state funeral on Thursday, performing John Lennon's "Imagine."
Government agencies and major stock exchanges will be closed on Thursday to honor Jimmy Carter, who served as the 39th U.S. president.
The country singers played a rendition of "Imagine" by John Lennon, a reprise from their tribute to Rosalynn Carter at her funeral in 2023. As Brooks, 62, played the acoustic guitar, he harmonized with wife Yearwood, 60, while the funeral's choir provided background vocals on the song, one of the late president's favorites.

At a pomp-filled state funeral, mourners paid tribute to Mr. Carter and argued that he was a more successful leader than many remember. “It’s time to redeem his presidency,” a former aide said.
The president told attendees at the state funeral, including the other four living presidents, that Mr. Carter’s character allowed him to survive in a world of powerful pressures.
Jimmy Carter, who died Dec. 29 at the age of 100, spent his life intertwined with America’s and the world’s enduring legacy of slavery.

"Mrs. Obama sends her thoughts and prayers to the Carter family, and everyone who loved and learned from the remarkable former President.”
